Juan Carlos López de Lacalle manages to keep the Pagos Viejos at a remarkably high level over many years, so that the Pagos Viejos is guaranteed a place among the best red wines of Rioja. It is made from the three oldest plots of the bodega, planted with Tempranillo vines that are over 75 years old.

It is particularly suitable as an accompaniment to beef fillet, braised knuckle or lamb chops. Serve this wine also with game dishes and oxtail.

Intense color with black glints. Prunes and Amarena cherries in the deep nose, also marzipan and fine clove spice. Velvety flow on the palate with seductively sweet tannins and malty extract, becoming increasingly youthful in the complex middle, blackberries and liquorice, lavish and mineral at the same time, fascinating play of fruit right through to the finale, which promises enormous reserves.
